Our Story
MKD Araoye Foundation is a Non-Governmental Organization dedicated to improving the standard of living of senior citizens and youth primarily in Ekiti State, Nigeria.
Nigeria ranks as the poverty capital of the world according to a report published in 2019 by the National Bureau of Statistics, 40% of Nigerians: about 82 million people are living below the poverty line of 137,430Naira ($381.75) a year, NBS(2020). In a situation like this, the youth of employable age and the elderly are usually on the receiving end and the statistics is equally unflattering, to the average elderly individual or youth in Ekiti State,
In addition, based on the 2019 Poverty and Inequality in Nigeria: Executive Summary report published by the National Bureau of Statistics in May, 2020, the poverty gap index is 6.2 while the squared poverty gap index is 2.0. In this report, 21-40% of the total population of Ekiti State citizens are below the poverty headcount rate. This shows how important our work is to the underprivileged in Ekiti State.
This is why at MKD Araoye Foundation, we are determined to add value by mitigating some of the pressures faced by Nigerian citizens, with Ekiti State as a primary focus. Our initiatives are therefore focused on improving the quality of life of the elderly and youth.
