Education

A sad reality in Nigeria today, is the fact that about 10.5 million children are out of school despite the Universal Basic Education Programme of the Nigerian government. It is universally accepted that every child no matter their status, birth-order, gender, religion, or circumstance should be excluded from accessing quality education. The reality in most communities however reveals a startling contrast as millions of children are missing out on education which in turn limits their chances for a bright future. This is why at MKD Araoye Foundation, we are extremely motivated to ensuring that every child has the best chance to learn and develop the skills needed to succeed in school and in life. Our education initiatives focus on:

  • Closing the gap between access to education and financing through provision of educational grants and scholarships to dedicated students with zero to low income.
  • Providing educational infrastructure through the building of libraries and schools especially in areas or communities where such initiatives are severely lacking.
  • Investing in teachers through trainings and workshops to ensure they deliver quality education.
  • Provision of educational materials such as school uniforms, textbooks, and other learning-aid materials.

Empowerment and opportunity

In order to maximize the potential of vulnerable young people, we are working to empower and create opportunities for youth that would meet their evolving needs and deliver lasting impacts. By providing them with opportunities that will enable them to transition from low living standards, to being able to secure livelihoods and self-reliance through to the acquisition of knowledge and skills. Our empowerment initiatives are focused on:

  • Employability trainings, leadership workshops, Vocational skill acquisitions.
  • Mentorship programs.
3.

Hunger and Livelihoods

In spite of food being an essential need, statistics indicates that hunger affects one out of every nine people. MKD Araoye Foundation is positioned towards alleviation of hunger and improving living standards by introducing food security with the aim of ensuring vulnerable children and adults (elderly, widows and widowers) have access to food. This initiative is not restricted to provision of food items alone, support for vulnerable families with the tools to produce food both for consumption and sale. Our Initiatives are tailored to encompass various activities customized to meet a community’s specific needs such as:

  • Boosting local agricultural production and farming methods.
  • Support small scale farming.
  • Enhance vulnerable peoples’ access to sustainable sources of food.
4.

Health and Wellbeing

Access to quality health care is unfortunately limited to the privileged. The underprivileged cannot afford basic health care, they also lack information on appropriate health promoting practices which in turn results in unmitigated health disasters. The more remote a location is, the harder it is for proper dissemination of information needed to promote healthy practices and access to basic health care. In order to solve this problem, MKD Araoye Foundation is positioned towards giving the people the tools needed to live healthy and productive lives. Our health initiatives focus on promoting health and wellbeing by:

  • Ensuring that frontline health workers are appropriately trained, equipped, and supported.
  • Making it possible for families especially in remote communities have access to treatment services.
  • Engage with communities to promote healthy behaviours and provide health sensitization.
  • Providing free medical check-up within communities.
